Unless you are feeling sick, you probably wouldn’t stick your face next to your toilet. But there are items around your house that you stick next to your face every day that could be even dirtier than your bathroom’s commode.

For Personal Tech Media, this is Two Minute Tech. I’m Jim Herman.

Last year, the Australian website Compare the Market released a study showing the germs on many everyday items compared to the number of germs on your toilet. Coming in at eight and a half times dirtier than your toilet was your television’s remote control.

You handle your phone all the time, yet it comes in at almost four and a half times dirtier than the bathroom throne. Tablets, headphones, laptops, and keys also earn the distinction of being dirtier than a toilet.

If you’re looking to rectify this disgusting problem, electronic wipes are the easiest solution. If you can’t find electronic wipes, you can also use the spray and cloth from a camera lens cleaning kit. But make sure you spray the solution onto the cloth and not directly onto your electronics.

If you want to clean your phone, you could also consider investing in a UV sanitizer. These devices will run between $50 and $100, but they will kill over 99% of germs in just five to ten minutes.

And in case you’re curious, the filthiest item in the study was a shopping cart, which comes in at over 26 times dirtier than the toilet. Now, that is something that will make you think twice before you walk past the sanitizing wipes.
