Have you ever wished you had a second phone number, one that you could give away online when selling something on Craigslist or meeting people on online dating sites? Regardless of the reason, there are apps that can help you add a second phone number to your existing cell phone.

For Personal Tech Media, this is Two Minute Tech. I’m Jim Herman.

Google Voice is the most popular option for adding a second number. It is one of the most flexible choices, allowing for calls, text messages, and do not disturb. Plus, it can forward voicemails and text messages to your email address.

Hushed offers multiple options. If you need a quick number, you can get a free one that’s good for 3 days. For $1.99, you can upgrade to a 7-day plan that includes 20 calling minutes and 60 messages. For $4.99, you can get an unlimited plan with a permanent number.

Burner gets its name from the idea of a Burner phone. It operates on a credit system, which allows you to establish a 14-day number. You can also subscribe to an unlimited plan for $4.99 per month.

iPlum offers an unlimited plan for $11.99 per month or a more limited plan for $7.99. The limited plan comes with 200 credits per month. Each credit is good for one minute of calling or one text message.

And finally, TextNow allows you to call and text for free as long as you’re willing to deal with some advertising in the app. You can use your email address to sign up and call or text over Wi-Fi.
