Video doorbells can be handy devices. However, many people only use them to answer the door. While that’s certainly okay, there are many more things that your video doorbell can do. Here are five features you should consider trying out.
For Personal Tech Media, this is Two Minute Tech. I’m Jim Herman.
First, you can drop in on your doorbell live at any time, not just when an alert occurs. While some models make this more accessible than others, it’s a feature on almost every doorbell. Ring doorbells even allow you to make this the default action when you tap on the camera.
Second, you can create custom motion zones. The default range of your doorbell will probably give you alerts for things you don’t need, like people walking on the sidewalk or driving down the street. Custom motion zones will only send you alerts when motion occurs in the areas you specify.
Third, you can put alerts to sleep for a period of time. If someone is doing work near the doorbell, you don’t want a warning each time that it detects motion. Setting it to sleep for one or two hours will give you some peace while the work is being done.
Fourth, set up quick replies. If you can’t answer the doorbell, the quick reply can do it for you. However, be aware that a quick reply can signal to someone that you’re not home.
And fifth, you can add your doorbell to other people’s accounts. If you have someone who’s going to help keep an eye on your home, you can add their email to your account. That allows that person to receive alerts without having the access to make changes.
