I’ve done several episodes on this podcast covering some of the negative ways people have used AirTags to track others. However, these small devices do have many useful purposes. Here are four incredibly useful features of AirTags that you might not have thought about.
For Personal Tech Media, this is Two Minute Tech. I’m Jim Herman.
First, use precision finding to locate your AirTag when you’re close to it. The standard tracking will get you close to your item, but the precision finding will give you a distance counter and direction to your tag. To use this feature, locate the tag in the Find My app and then tap Find Nearby. However, make sure to close the Find My app once you’ve found it, or it will continue to track your item closely.
Second, if you have many tags, you don’t have to find the specific one you’re looking for in the list. As long as you know the name you’ve given it, ask Siri where it is. Siri will describe the location and activate a sound on the AirTag.
Third, use the Find My app to check the battery life of your AirTag. Just open the item from the list and you’ll see a battery indicator on your screen. Keeping an eye on the battery remaining on your tags can help you replace them before they’re completely dead.
And fourth, consider turning on Lost Mode. If you enable Lost Mode, anyone who finds your tag can tap it against a phone to see a contact phone number or email address. This may be disconcerting to some users, but it can be helpful if you’ve lost a very important item.
