It can be expensive to travel, and this summer’s high fuel prices certainly aren’t helping. However, when it comes to your hotel stay, there are some strategies you can employ to find the best price. Here are four things you can do to reduce the cost of your room.
For Personal Tech Media, this is Two Minute Tech. I’m Jim Herman.
First, price shop for the best rate. Check a variety of hotels and websites. Once you’ve found the best price, call the hotel and see if they’ll match it. Many hotels will match prices that are available online.
Second, wait before you book. Hotels that aren’t full will often drop prices closer to the check-in dates, especially after cancellation deadlines have passed. You may also want to try apps that offer last-minute bookings like Hotel Tonight.
Obviously, waiting to book is not recommended if you’re going to a large event or a busy tourist area in the summer. If you’re willing to wait this long, try calling on the day you’ll arrive around 4 p.m. Many hotels may offer considerable discounts if they don’t anticipate being full.
Third, ask about discounts available. Many hotels offer discounts for veterans, seniors, first responders, AAA members, and more.
Fourth, you’ll find the best offers if you can be flexible. Obviously, not everyone can be flexible with their plans, but if you can adjust your stay by a day or two, go through a hotel you might not typically use, or be willing to stay outside the typical tourist zone, you might find better deals available.
