What would you say is the most critical part of your phone? Many items are essential, the screen, the processor, for some people the camera, but none of that will work without a good battery. What you do can extend the life of your battery or kill it quickly. Here are four steps that you can take if you want to boost your battery’s life.

First, overcharging can kill your battery. Seeing your charging percentage at 100 is excellent, but this can put stress on your battery if you do it frequently. Unless you anticipate needing a full charge, it’s a good idea to stop charging once your phone is at 80%. Continuing to charge your battery once it’s full could create short repeated cycles of charging and discharging.
Second, letting your battery run down to zero is also bad for it. It’s best to plug your phone in when it gets down to around 20% power. Don’t let your phone get to the point where it completely shuts down.
Third, extreme heat can kill your battery quickly. Heat can come from a lot of sources, including charging the battery, playing games, or leaving your phone in the car. Do your best to keep your phone from getting too hot. Heat can make your phone lose its charge more quickly and reduce the overall lifespan of the battery.
Fourth, using cheap phone chargers can also hurt your battery. Chargers approved by the manufacturer will communicate with the battery and help prevent issues that can happen during charging. Cheap chargers will not communicate, and that will force the battery to use its own backup protections instead.
