Yesterday, Google held its keynote address at the I/O Developers Conference. While Google introduced a few new devices, most of its announcements were software related. Here’s a summary of what Google announced yesterday.
For Personal Tech Media, this is Two Minute Tech. I’m Jim Herman.
On the hardware side, Google introduced a new foldable phone, the Pixel Fold. Google claims it is the most durable hinge of any foldable, and when it’s unfolded, it is the thinnest phone from Google. Google also introduced the Pixel 7A, an updated version of last year’s 6A, and finally introduced the Pixel Tablet, which has been teased at previous Google events.
On the software side, Google announced it will bring AI to Android 14. One of the big announcements was the ability of Google’s Bard AI to rewrite your text messages in various styles.
Google also announced a new Find My Device network, which integrates several tracking services. While few details were made available, the Mountain View company said that location data would be encrypted so that even Google could not decipher it.
And finally, Project Tailwind represents Google’s attempt to bring AI to the classroom. It’s a customized language model that can be refined with custom data. A teacher would be able to provide Tailwind with materials and receive a course summary and other documents back. Students could also interact with it to ask questions or look up information.
