Yesterday, Samsung joined in on the product announcement fun, introducing some new phones, tablets, and smartwatches at its Galaxy Unpacked event. Here’s the rundown on the latest devices from the Korean tech giant.
For Personal Tech Media, this is Two Minute Tech. I’m Jim Herman.
First, Samsung announced two new foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The Fold 5 boasts a thinner and lighter body, thanks in part to a redesigned hinge that allows the phone to fold without a gap. The internals have been updated to the latest components that are used in most Samsung devices. However, outside of those changes, there’s little that will convince a Fold 4 owner to upgrade to the Fold 5.
The Flip 5 is a more significant upgrade. A new cover display allows for new widgets and tools on the cover, and the redesigned hinge also makes this phone thinner.
Moving to smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 6 series will also come with upgraded specs that will improve speed and battery life. The rotating bezel, one of the most popular discontinued features, will also make its return on the Watch 6 Classic.
And finally, Samsung announced the Tab S9 line of tablets. The cheaper Tab S9 has an improved display, and all three of the models boast updated specs. The most expensive S9 Ultra will also come with a quad speaker sound system.
Samsung will release all of its new devices on August 11th, and p resales are now available through Samsung’s site and at Amazon.
